BCCI Finalizes domestic fixtures

Earlier, in June 2024, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) released the domestic cricket tournament schedule for the upcoming home season 2024-25. The domestic season kickstarts on 5th September 2024 with the Duleep Trophy in Ananthapur and four teams will be chosen by the selection committee for the red-ball cricket.

Furthermore, the season continues with the Irani Cup followed by Ranji Trophy Elite version that has the first five matches in the league stages. Considering the white ball series, the prestigious Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy is set to start on November 23, whereas the Vijay Hazare trophy begins on December 21.

Finally, the season concludes with the Vizzy Trophy which is scheduled to take place from 10th March to 16th March 2025 for the men’s team. In comparison, the women’s team will wrap up the domestic season with the Under-23 One Day Trophy that starts on 05th March and completes on 26th March 2025.

The BCCI has carefully planned and implemented changes for the senior and youth tournaments for the men’s and women’s teams by considering several factors to strengthen the fundamentals of domestic cricket while focusing on player benefits.

BCCI Introduces Changes in Domestic Season 2024-25

These are the interesting changes announced by BCCI for the upcoming domestic season 2024-25:

1. Toss Eliminated in CK Nayudu Trophy 2024-25:

One of the shocking changes that BCCI has implemented is eliminating the toss system for the CK Nayudu Trophy 2024-25. Rather, the visiting team has the opportunity of choosing to bat or bowl first.

2. Ranji Trophy Split into Two Phases: 

There is another eye-catching twist in the story, as the Ranji Trophy has been divided into two halves, with the league stage scheduled to take place in October 2024 and the knockouts continuing from February 2025.

3. Omission of Deodhar Trophy:

Once again, the Deodhar Trophy has been excluded from the domestic season 2024-25. Although it was brought back in the previous year, after a long pause of 4 years, the tournament has been discontinued again
