On Tuesday (9th July 2024), the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Jay Shah confirmed the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as Team India’s new head coach.

Former head coach Rahul Dravid received a perfect farewell from the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and his teammates after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The final match of the tournament against South Africa was Dravid’s final assignment as the Indian team’s head coach. Furthermore, he clarified that there wouldn’t be an extension to his contract after the conclusion of the recently concluded ICC tournament.

The discussion about Gautam Gambhir taking up the role of India’s head coach increased to a peak level during the second half of the IPL 2024. His success as KKR’s mentor this season convinced BCCI that he could be the successor of Rahul Dravid to take the team forward to reach greater heights.

Gautam Gambhir starts his first assignment as the men in blue’s head coach, where the entire team will be touring Sri Lanka for the limited-over series starting from July 27, featuring 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

However, the CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) has completed the interview process and shortlisted two candidates and after reaching Mumbai, the decision will be taken, regarding their travel.
