Conclusion:

The Indian cricket team under the new head coach Gautam Gambhir faced a massive loss by more than 100 runs in the 3rd ODI match of the series against Sri Lanka played at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on August 7. Also, the men-in-blue had to undergo their first bilateral series defeat against Sri Lanka after 27 years with a margin of 2-0. As the first match concluded with a tied result, India’s failure with the bat continued, which resulted in a 32-run loss in the 2nd ODI and a 110-run loss in the 3rd ODI.

The ODI format witnessed the return of senior players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli along with experienced batters such as KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer. Despite the presence of these star cricketers, it wasn’t helpful for India to repeat their success in the T20 format of this series and fail in back-to-back games.

As the Indian cricket team will be getting a huge break of more than 40 days, it is a perfect opportunity for Gautam Gambhir to work on the weakness of the team to perform well in longer formats of cricket. Moreover, Team India is one such busiest international cricket team that gets a rare opportunity to undergo complete rest in the longer break provided. Ultimately, it’s a special moment for the Indian cricketers to utilize this extended break to enjoy and relieve themselves to deliver their best performance as they prepare for the upcoming action-packed schedule till next year’s Champions Trophy
