With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction set to take place within a few days, all ten franchises have successfully submitted the retention list on Thursday (October 31) before 5 pm IST. An overall of 46 players for a grand total of INR 558.5 crores have been retained by the teams.

Each team with a salary cap of INR 120 crores was allowed to retain upto six players through direct retention or using Right to Match (RTM) cards with a permissible limit of five capped internationals and two uncapped Indian players. The combination includes retaining five capped and uncapped (5+1) or four capped and two capped (4+2) players in the squad.

Defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the first-ever IPL champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) have retained six players with no RTM option available. While teams such as Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Gujarat Titans (GT), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have one RTM option after retaining five players.

Interestingly, Punjab Kings (PBKS) enters the mega auction with the largest purse of INR 110.5 crores after retaining just two players, thereby having the chance to acquire top-quality players at lucrative prices. Whereas, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals(DC) have retained three and four players.

Furthermore, franchises such as PBKS, RCB, DC, LSG, and KKR have released their captains to build a strong squad of 25 players.

1. Punjab Kings (2 Retentions): INR 110.5 Crores

After releasing high-profile players such as Jitesh Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Rilee Rossouw, and Chris Woakes along with the retired Shikhar Dhawan, PBKS is set to create a sensation in the mega auction with a purse of INR 110.5 crores.

Tristan Stubbs is the only overseas player retained in the DC’s squad along with three other Indians. After releasing the captain Rishabh Pant along with core players such as David Warner, Ishant Sharma, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and several others the franchise is confident to acquire players for an attractive offer with a purse of INR 69 crores.
