On Sunday (July 06), the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans were crowned as the new champions of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025. After several years of waiting, Tiruppur had a perfect climax to the ninth season by claiming a massive victory by 118 runs against Dindigul Dragons in the finals.

Sai Kishore led team had a memorable night to remember at the NPR College Ground, Dindigul by lifting their maiden TNPL trophy. Thanks to the half-centuries from the Tiruppur squad openers, namely Amit Sathvik and Tushar Raheja.

Also, the dynamic cameos from Mohamed Ali, Uthirasamy Sasidev, and V Anovankar deserve a special mention.

But, the 2-fers from R Silambarasan, S Mohan Prasath, and Esakkimuthu restricted the Dragons from chasing a mammoth target of 221 runs.

Aggressive Opening Partnership between Sathvik and Raheja

Dindigul captain Ashwin opted for a strategic decision to field first after winning the toss, as his team won 3 out of 4 matches this season when batted second at the NPR College ground.

Amit Sathvik batted at a strike rate of 191.18. The right-handed batter scored 65 runs from just 34 balls (including 8 fours and 3 sixes). But it was the left-handed batter Tushar Raheja, who grabbed the spotlight with his fabulous 77-run knock scored out of 46 deliveries (including 6 fours and 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 167.39.

The 121-run opening stand between Sathvik and Raheja provided a flyer start to IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans.

Mainly, the difference in batting styles, such as the left-right combination (Raheja-Sathvik) challenged Dindigul’s bowling attack.

Quickfire Knocks From Tiruppur Middle Order Batters

Tiruppur posted a challenging target of 220, which was indeed the highest total in the history of the TNPL final. But, this was completely possible due to the blazing performances of these three middle-order batters, namely:

• Mohamed Ali: 23 runs from 14 balls (including 2 fours) at a strike rate of 164.29.
• Uthirasamy Sasidev: 20 runs from 11 balls (including 2 fours and 1 six) at a strike rate of 181.82.
• V Anovankar: 25 runs (not out) from 12 balls (including 1 four and 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 208.33.

As a result, the first innings wrapped up to a massive total with 60 runs being scored in the last five overs.

Ashwin’s Early Dismissal

The early dismissal of Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin (1 run from 4 balls) provided the necessary shift for the Tiruppur Tamizhans. However, the right-arm medium pacer R Silambarasan deserves the credit for instantly grabbing the wicket of Ashwin, who was indeed the fifth-highest run scorer of the season.

Tiruppur Bowlers Domination

The Tiruppur bowlers’ strong bowling attack made it tough for Dindigul’s batting line-up to compile runs.

Especially, the lethal spells from Esakkimuthu (2/27 in 4 overs), S Mohan Prasath (2/18 in 2 overs), R Silambarasan (2/12 in 2 overs), and T Natarajan (1/19 in 2 overs) slowed down the Dragons’ momentum in a high-pressure run chase.

Apart from Atul Vitkar (24 runs), Hunny Saini (17 runs), Bhuvaneshwar Venkatesh (12 runs), and Vimal Khumar (10 runs), the rest of the batters departed with a single-digit score.

Overall, the Dindigul Dragons under Ashwin’s captaincy failed to defend their championship title as they were bowled out for just 102 in 14.4 overs. Also, Esakkimuthu had a memorable debut season by concluding as the tournament’s second-leading wicket-taker.
